David J. Cocovi-Solberg

Hello! I’m David πŸ˜€πŸ‘‹

I have good reasons for understanding your analytical needs. With a PhD in chemical science and technology, I have been specialized for 15 years in microfluidics for the automation of chemistry laboratories, that is, pumps and valves. My work focuses on the development of automatic systems for chemical analysis, with emphasis on miniaturization, environmental analysis and biomimetic tests. I collaborated with many wonderful people, with whom we exploited Flow Injection Analysis, Sequential Injection Analysis, and Lab on Valve, mostly as a front end to Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) or Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).

We designed, assembled or fabricated, and validated our own actuators, detectors, control electronics, and control software. This means that I spent so much time on the mill, lathe, soldering, and programming than on sampling, preparing calibrations, and treating data, covering the entire workflow from concept to validated results. This experience is backed by 25 scientific papers, 75 conference presentations, and 1 patent.

My current focus is on miniaturization. Merging the concepts of Bead Injection and Sequential Injection Chromatography, we can produce an HPLC with integrated sample preparation under 2 kg. It is so lightweigth that you can take it to the field. It is so easy to use that you do not need extensive training. It is connected, so that you can deploy it an receive the data in your office or your phone at real time.

Why? Because I believe that chemical analysis should be independent and accessible to everybody!Β
